Accessibility Training & Accessibility Day

University Community,

You are invited to participate in some training opportunities that are designed to build a strong culture of ADA accessibility at Purdue University Calumet.

March 1st marked the beginning of our revamped Web Accessibility / WordPress training sessions, led by Web Accessibility Coordinator Pam Riesmeyer, and the reviews have come in fast and positive:

“I want to thank you for the Web Accessibility session yesterday. It was great! I learned so much and left with a ton of ideas”

“As I sat in Pam’s wonderful … Web Accessibility class yesterday, I kept thinking how important it would be for *everyone* at the University to… complete an accessibility awareness training class”

“I didn’t really realize what Web Accessibility meant. That video of the screen reader user helped so much!”

This is the next and logical step in our Electronic & Information Technology Accessibility Initiative (EITA for short) – to give everyone an opportunity to get answers to any questions they may have about Web Accessibility, what we are doing and why we are doing it.

The World is Different - Community is Inclusive Purdue Calumet T-shirt

The hour-long Accessibility Training sessions will continue weekly at 1pm Tuesday and at 2pm Wednesday in the Student Union Library (SUL) building, Room 262. They’re informal, informative and have proven to be enlightening! Everyone is welcome and no registration is necessary. Bring your questions and concerns and we look forward to seeing you.

Stop by and participate in our First Annual Accessibility Awareness Event

The world is different … for each of us. We all have challenges and limitations – some more obvious than others. We may have different perspectives, different learning styles, different experiences, but we are all in this campus community together. And that’s the heart of Accessibility… including everyone; shutting no one out.

To demonstrate what this inclusivity means, the Electronic & Information Technology Accessibility Initiative (EITA) is sponsoring Accessibility Day this Wednesday, March 21st.

We will have two computer stations set up in the concourse of the Student Union Library Building (SUL) from 11 am to 2 pm to give you an opportunity to experience the Web in a completely new way – and to earn a T-shirt for your participation.

Come join us for this event – part of Disability Awareness Month in Indiana – and help us
Celebrate Community.

Thank you.
