Campus Update

Peregrines Basketball fever begins with tourney Nov. 2-3

Autumn leaves are still falling, which means another season of Purdue Calumet basketball is nearly here.

Our men’s and women’s squads open 2012-13 play by hosting their Papa John’s Tip-Off Classic, Friday-Saturday, Nov. 2-3. Coach Tom Megyesi’s women’s squad takes on Cornerstone (Mich.) University at 4:30 p.m., Nov. 2 and Concordia (Mich.) University at 1 p.m., Nov. 3. The men’s team of Coach Dan Voudrie face Indiana University Kokomo at 6:30 p.m., Nov. 2 and Madonna (Mich.) University at 3 p.m., Nov. 3.

“Our women’s team is excited and optimistic about this season,” Megyesi said. “We return 11 players from last season’s team that won 23 games.”

Voudrie, as well, feels his players will meet this year’s opponents with eager enthusiasm. “We are so excited about the upcoming season, as this is one of the hardest working groups I have ever been a part of over the years,” he said. “The leadership that is coming out of the locker room is some of the most mature any coach could ask of a team. Trent Tucker and Leroy Cooper are setting this tone with their approach and mindset every day. It will be a team that our students and campus community will not only enjoy watching play, but get to know as well.”
