Student Perspective

Introducing the new President of the Student Government Association:

Marisa Henderson
Valparaiso resident, Sophomore
Majoring in Political Science and Spanish; Minoring in French.

“I would first like to take this opportunity to thank the students and faculty who have supported me in my campaign with my running mate, Daniel Curtin. If I were to describe my main goals and objectives for this coming academic year they would be to create a sense of pride in students for attending Purdue University Calumet, encourage positive relationships between students and faculty, and, most importantly, to be a voice for the student body.

I have been at Purdue Calumet for only two years now, but in those two years a whole new world of possibilities has opened up for me. I began to work in the International Programs Office (IPO) my freshmen year as volunteer, not knowing how much that job would really create a sense of connection for me to the campus.

Since my first days at IPO I have been able to create positive working relationships, have been able to get involved in campus activities and have been mentored by faculty members within that office and others. As students we have a tremendous amount of resources available to us, but one of the most important resources that we have are the committed faculty that surround us.

We have the great advantage of having faculty who are willing to share their knowledge and expertise with us to help us achieve our full potential as future professionals. As student body president, I believe that in order to instill a sense of pride in our campus and university, the building of positive relationship between students and faculty is definitely a key aspect.

As the president of the student body I hope to maintain and promote the interests and advancement of all students.”
