Deadline for 2014 Benefits Open Enrollment is Nov. 15

The deadline for 2014 Benefits Open Enrollment is 5 p.m., Friday, Nov. 15. Significant changes to the medical plans and premiums make it extremely important for all benefit eligible employees to review their options in order to select the best medical plan for 2014. 

Human Resources will be available to assist in completing the enrollment process each week day during the Open Enrollment period. Just stop by during one of the scheduled Open Labs (PDF)

Lake County tax update

As of Oct. 1, the new, 1.5 percent income tax rate for Lake County residents and 0.25 percent rate for non-residents became effective. Due to unanticipated problems with updating the appropriate systems, Purdue University’s withholding of the Lake County Tax was delayed. Therefore, bi-weekly paid employees first experienced county tax withholding with their Oct. 30 pay. Monthly paid employees will see the tax withholding beginning with their Nov. 27 pay. 

The impact of the tax withholding delay will be reflected on employees’ W2 information. Wages from the bi-weekly Oct. 16 pay and the monthly Oct. 30 pay will be recorded as taxable wages for the county. However, the taxes associated with those wages will not be withheld; therefore, the taxes withheld for this year will be insufficient. 

If you would like to increase your withholdings you can complete a WH-4 form (Employee’s Withholding Exemption and County Status Certificate) and adjust withholding for November and/or December. These forms may be turned into the Payroll Department. Otherwise, you will be required to pay these additional taxes when you prepare your 2013 Indiana state tax return. To obtain more information, email or call the Purdue Calumet Human Resources Department at ext. 2251.
