Introducing . . . Environmental Forum Series
A new Environmental Forum Series, introduced by Purdue Calumet’s School of Engineering, Mathematics & Science, is being offered in partnership with The (NW Indiana) Times.
The forum series seeks to bring together key regional constituents interested in securing a positive environmental future for the Calumet/Lake Shore region.
The initial forum, held Tuesday (4/17), focused on “Environmental Challenges and Opportunities for the Calumet Region.” Purdue Calumet Professors Chandramouli Viswanathan, Young Choi and Robert Kramer participated in a roundtable discussion.
In collaboration with The Times and its One Region, One Vision initiative, this partnership attempts to advance environmental insight and expertise in response to important regional issues.
“This is an effort to create a public forum for expanding understanding of issues and exploring thoughtful strategies about our regional environment through rationale, collegial discussion,” Interim Dean of Engineering, Mathematics & Science Michael Henson said. “We believe that an environmental partnership that fosters knowledge and empowers successful environmental stewardship to maximize the quality of life for region residents and stakeholders offers great potential for our region.”
Henson added that such a partnership will provide opportunities to encourage cooperation and team building among researchers, conservationists, environmentalists, business and industry, and the public. It also will be a platform for informed discourse of regional environmental issues, as well as a vehicle for Purdue Calumet to apply its environmental expertise and resources.
