Proposed academic changes

Purdue Calumet academic proposals before Trustees Friday (7/19)

The Purdue Board of Trustees, during its scheduled meeting Friday (7/19), plans to act on three academic proposals relating to our campus.

The proposals:

  • Re-designate our six, undergraduate academic schools as colleges;
  • Change the name and academically relocate the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management; and
  • Merge the Department of Information Systems and the Department of Finance and Economics.

Pending Trustees approval, our schools will be renamed…

–from School of Management to College of Business

–from School of Education to College of Education

–from School of Engineering, Mathematics and Science to College of Engineering, Mathematics and Science

–from School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences to College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences

–from School of Nursing to College of Nursing

–from School of Technology to College of Technology

Organizing by colleges positions our campus consistently with that of other Purdue campuses.

Also, before the Trustees are requests to . . .

–change the name of the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management to the White Lodging School of Hospitality and Tourism Management and academically relocate it within the College of Business; and

–merge the Department of Information Systems and Department of Finance and Economics into the new Department of Information Systems, Finance and Business Analytics, also to be academically located within the College of Business.

Chancellor Keon told Purdue News Service at West Lafayette that our “reorganization allows more opportunities for collaboration and program updates consistent with university goals and with industry needs. This is especially relevant as employers of our students are calling for database management and business analysis skills.”
