Classification of a student is based upon the number of hours completed toward the intended degree. The student’s academic advisor keeps track of this classification and updates it accordingly. The following formula is helpful in determining your student classification:

| 0-15 | 1 | Freshman |
| 16-30 | 2 | 2nd Semester Freshman |
| 31-45 | 3 | Sophomore |
| 46-60 | 4 | 2nd Semester Sophomore |
| 61-75 | 5 | Junior |
| 76-90 | 6 | 2nd Semester Junior |
| 91-105 | 7 | Senior |
| 106+ | 8 | 2nd Semester Senior |
Transfer Students Residency Rule: At least two semesters of enrollment in and completion of at least 32 credit hours approved and required for the degree, at the 300 level or above at Purdue University Calumet. Students are normally expected to complete the senior year in residence. Courses completed by examination will not apply to this rule.
