Jody Kidd, Graduate Program Coordinator, School of Technology was one of two recipients of the Going the Extra Mile with a Smile Award for Fall 2012.
This award recognizes clerical, service and administrative professional support staff within Academic Affairs who have exhibited exemplary customer service and have gone beyond the expected to provide noteworthy service to the University.
Jody was nominated by Niaz Latif, Mohammad Zahraee, Laura Dorsch and Geraldine Revoir.
They had this to say about why Jody deserved to receive this honor; “As the Graduate Program Coordinator for the School of Technology, Jody Kidd goes the “extra mile with a smile” as she helps students, faculty and staff in the School of Technology. Jody is the front-line person in the Dean’s office and supports the Technology graduate programs. As such, her customer service is unyielding. She is courteous, friendly, and knowledgeable, and always makes our faculty, staff and students feel that they are her top priority, no matter how busy she is. Jody provides information on both academic, as well as non-academic (campus life) matters.
When students visit Jody with questions or concerns, she makes the extra effort to provide answers, help resolve problems, and obtain the correct information from relevant university sources. Her smile and sense of humor are contagious and, combined with her ability to make people feel at home, she is a “mom” to many of our graduate students who look to her for counseling and support.
With many international students in our graduate program, Jody is always there to make them feel at home. She knows all our 155 graduate students by first name! She provides advice to them not only on their academic life, but also helps them get settled in school, and in case of international students, helps them with their international office issues, acts as a liaison between them, Assistant Dean for Graduate Studies, and the students’ consulate in Washington.
Her dedication to her work is clear when she is responding to graduate students’ emails late in the evening, making sure that students are getting the answers they are looking for. We strongly believe that Jody is one of the main reasons for our high retention and the tremendous growth of our graduate program. Jody makes the School of Technology Dean’s office welcoming to all stakeholders. Geraldine added, “No matter her time constraints, Jody will make it a point to welcome anyone who stops by her desk with a smile while attempting to answer their questions or needs. Some students even refer to her as their second mom, because of how at home she makes them feel.
She really does go that extra mile to help others and definitely deserves this award.”
