Student Health Services Center

The Student Health Services Center (SHSC) affords your student access to primary care and preventative services while in a convenient location, on campus at Purdue University Calumet. Opened in February 2006, “The SHSC is committed to providing the highest quality healthcare in a warm and nonjudgmental environment.” The SHSC provides many services and assists your student with serious health problems by working with specialists in the community.

Some of the services offered at the clinic are acute complaint exams, health maintenance and preventative services, immunizations, sports, work and nursing physicals, gynecological exams and STI screening to name a few. The SHSC also works closely with other Student Affairs Staff to offer health education and fitness services.

The clinic is staffed by an Advance Practice Nurse APN, a Clinical Operations Assistant, and a consulting physician. Additionally, the SHSC works closely with a prescribing psychologist and counselors from the Counseling Center to assist students with medications for mental illness.

There is a $20 charge for an office visit which will be applied to your student’s student account. If your student is residing on campus in University Village and needs his or her immunization form completed, your student must call the clinic and schedule an appointment at 219.989.1235. When your student arrives for that appointment he or she must bring a copy of his or her immunization record. (Please, note that all records must be in English).

While we understand that the care and services received by your student are of utmost concern to you, please remember that FERPA applies to your student and his or her educational record which includes personal health information and treatment records in the SHSC. Even with the limitations you may experience because of the FERPA regulations, the staff in the SHSC are happy to work with you and your student to ensure he or she receives the best care. If you are a parent of a student with a serious medical problem we encourage you to visit the SHSC to find out about services that are available and encourage your student to meet the SHSC staff.

Most of the information found in this article may also be found on the website; for more information on the services offered, the location and hours of the clinic, please visit the website at http://webs.calumet.purdue. edu/healthcenter/about/
