Proposal Development Services

The Office of Research and Graduate Studies offers research development services to Purdue University Calumet faculty and staff who are seeking external funding to support their research and programs and are developing proposals for submission to external agencies. Research Development Coordinators provide services to help faculty members succeed in identifying opportunities and applying for external funds for their research, teaching, and service activities. The Coordinators also help connect investigators and build interdisciplinary research teams. Research Development Coordinators, in particular, can:

  • Identify funding opportunities
  • Facilitate identification and creation of project teams
  • Coordinate peer reviews
  • Facilitate communication between researchers and program officers

Research Development Coordinators assist faculty in the development of high-value, high-complexity proposals that often represent a multi-departmental and inter-institutional collaboration as well as a budget of more than $500K. Proposal development services often include assistance with:

  • proposal preparation timelines and processes
  • agency mission and requirements of specific grant competitions
  • meeting logistics
  • writing of non-technical text and transitions
  • document control and copyediting
  • institutional support letters
  • addendum forms such as conflict of interest and biosketches

Project Facilitation for Large Proposals

Research Development Coordinators are available to assist groups of faculty planning to submit proposals that include multiple units, disciplines, and partners. The Coordinators identify funding opportunities appropriate for Purdue University Calumet faculty and staff, work with groups to determine the suitability of a given opportunity, coordinate meetings with all appropriate partners, and assist as needed to assure that all components of a particular opportunity are addressed. In addition, the Coordinators work with faculty and staff to develop cohesive groups in anticipation of future funding opportunities. 

Reviewing and Disseminating Funding Information 

Research Development Coordinators routinely review announcements of funding opportunities from governmental agencies and private foundations. Announcements that appear relevant to Purdue University Calumet departments and/or schools are announced in the ORGS Weekly Update.

Pivot (formerly COS) Research Expertise

Pivot [Opens in New Window] is the primary search engine used by ORGS to identify funding opportunities for faculty and staff at Purdue University Calumet. Research Development Coordinators are available to assist faculty and staff with creating their personal Pivot account and selecting search terms to find funding opportunities specific to a particular research interest.
