The Facility and Administrative cost rates are a negotiated rate with the Department of Health and Human Services. The Calumet Campus has a negotiated rate ending June 30, 2015.
On-Campus rate is 47%
Off-Campus Rate is 26%.
$305,000 of the total indirect funds from grants and contracts will be contributed per to the University Central Fund. the remaining funds will be allocated to promote research and provide incentives for the pursuit of sponsored funds based upon the following percentages:
- 10% – Principal Investigator
- 10% – Department/Unit
- 10% – Academic Dean
- 35% – Office of Research and Professional Development
- 35% – Academic Affairs
These funds are to be used to support the cost of facilities and administration related to research and faculty development activities. The policy became effective July 1, 2006.
Research Center Distribution
Effective 2010 – 2011 fiscal year, following F&A distribution will be adopted for all externally funded research conducted through institution level research centers. the three institutional level centers are, Center for Innovation Through Visualization and Simulation (CIVS), The Water Institute (PWI), and the Energy Efficiency and Reliability Center (EEC).
- 35% – Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs
- 35% – Assoc. VC Research and Graduate Studies
- 10% – Center
- 5% – Academic department of the PI
- 15% – PI (Professional Development)
To qualify for the above distribution, a grant proposal must include a statement to justify that the project could not be done without the center research facility. Office of Research and Graduate Studies will make the final determination on approving the proposal as a center sponsored proposal.
