SI Positions

ARC  is looking for talented students with successful study habits and a desire to help other students learn. As a Supplemental Instruction Leader (SI Leader), your primary responsibility will be to attend lectures and provide  SI sessions for specified courses. By providing this supplemental service, you’ll be helping students achieve academic success at Purdue University Calumet.

What Does an SI Leader Do?

  • Attends all lectures, takes notes, and reads course material
  • Conducts two SI sessions per week
  • Plans interactive learning activates that integrate study strategies with course content
  • Conducts exam review sessions
  • Attends all scheduled meetings and trainings
  • Models outstanding student behavior and successful academic practices
  • Works approximately 10 hours a week

Qualifications

  • Minimum overall GPA of 3.0
  • An “A” or “B” in the course you wish to support

Tutoring Positions

We are looking for dependable students who are committed to helping others and who are able to communicate and listen effectively. Tutors must have a 2.75 or higher overall GPA, and should have received a B or better in the courses they tutor. Tutors should be empathetic, nonjudgmental, and supportive of their fellow students.

What does a tutor do?

  • Assists students with specific course related concepts and problems
  • Facilitates development of effective, related study skills
  • Participates in regularly scheduled meetings and trainings
  • Conducts classroom visits to promote Academic Development services
  • Works 10-20 hours per week

Operations (Customer Service) Positions

These critically vital positions handle the front desk of the Skills Assessment & Development Center. These staff answer phones, greet visitors, assign tutors, make appointments, assist office staff, make copies, prepare  mass mailings,  and assist with some typing and data entry. These positions require moderate activity, such as running campus errands. If you are enthusiastic, friendly, and can handle details, this is the job opportunity for you!
