Security Requirements for Handling Information

Any comments regarding these requirements should be emailed to Data Administrator. Keep in mind these requirements “evolve” as the technology improves.

“Handling” information relates to when you view, update, or delete data. It also relates to when you transfer the data from one location to another. The data does not have to be electronically stored; it could be stored in a filing cabinet or in a binder. The data could be in a report or in a memo.

Based upon how the date is classified (Public, Sensitive or Restricted), that data may have certain precautions which need to be taken when handled. Click on the appropriate link for instructions on how to handle the data. For additional information, please visit the Administrative Data Classifications & Information Owners page.

For example, if you want to fax a report that has sensitive information on it, you would click on the link for “Electronically Transmitted Information” then look under the “Action” column for “By Fax” and read the cell under the column “Sensitive” to see what standards need to be followed in order to fax a document with sensitive information.
