Job Description for PWI- Post Doc I

Purdue University Calumet Water Institute in Hammond Indiana is seeking to hire a post-doc, funded by Department of Energy (DOE) grants. The Post-Doc is required to have expertise in membrane technology.  The general responsibilities of the post-doc position include but are not limited to:

  • Synthesis and characterize novel membranes;
  • Design and conduct membrane filtration experiments;
  • Investigate and develop methodologies to mitigate membrane fouling;
  • Analyze experimental results;
  • Write technical reports and journal publications;
  • Write proposals to generate grants;
  • Supervise and instruct undergraduate and/or graduate students

The ideal candidate shall have a Ph.D. degree in Macromolecular Science, Chemical Engineering, Material Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other closely related areas. This position is required to fabricate novel membranes so that the membrane characteristics can be readily tailored towards specific applications. In addition, skills in modifying the bulk and/or surface characteristics of either in-house fabricated or commercially available membranes are required. The membranes developed will not be limited to water related applications. The novel membranes to be fabricated by this post-doc position are expected to be suitable for biological research applications such as extraction, purification, and quantification of specific substances.  Experience and research background in biological applications is highly desired.

This position will begin on March 26th, 2012.   Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
