Integrating Technology in Teaching – Workshops for Faculty and Instructors

The Office of Instructional Technology offers trainings and consultations on technology integration for faculty and instructors. Workshops, led by Ningchun Han, Ed.D, focus on providing faculty and instructors with tools and strategies to create an engaging and effective learning environment for students.

Blackboard Learn Training

Blackboard Learn Essentials – Building Contents


In this workshop, we’ll learn how to set up the course structure, how to create folders, how to upload files, how to copy a course, and more.

Blackboard Learn – Assignments and Assessments


In this workshop, we’ll learn how to create an assignment, how to grade assignments, how to create a test, and how to view the test results.

Blackboard Learn – Assessments Advanced and SafeAssign


In this workshop, we’ll learn how to use question pools to create a test, how to use Adaptive Release to set up rules to release a test, and how to use SafeAssign as a plagiarism detection tool.

Blackboard Learn – Collaborative Tools


In this workshop, we’ll learn how to use Discussion Board, Blogs, Journals, and Wikis. We’ll also learn how to set up groups and use the tools above within groups.

Blackboard Learn – Grade Center


In this workshop, we’ll learn how to create a column, how to make the grade book calculate grades, how to manage columns, and how to use Smart View to create close-up view of selected students and columns.

Respondus – Creating and Managing Tests


In this workshop, we’ll learn how to use Respondus to import a test from Word document, how to retrieve a test from Blackboard Vista, how to publish a test from Respondus to a Blackboard Learn course, and how to use Respondus to retrieve test results and analyze the results.

Engaging Students in Learning

Lecture Recording – Increasing the Quality and Accessibility of Lectures


In this workshop, a variety of tools will be introduced to assist in recording lectures. Different teaching needs will be discussed to help identify the most appropriate tool to use to record lectures.

Collecting Students’ Live Response – Creating an Interactive Classroom


In this workshop, we’ll learn two tools, iClicker and Poll Everywhere, that allow instructors to gather students’ responses instantly in the classroom from their phones or computers and provide feedback.
