Understanding Your Award Notification

Admitted students who have applied for financial aid will receive either an estimated or official financial aid award notification shortly after we receive their Federal Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  The type of award notification received will depend on the completeness of your application.

The award notification will give instructions on how to view and accept/decline any of the funds offered to you, how to notify us of any additional funds you are receiving from outside sources and where to locate information explaining your rights and responsibilities regarding financial aid.   It will also direct you to PCSTAR which contains information about your financial aid eligibility, including cost of attendance and the types and amounts of funds you are eligible to receive (scholarships, grants, loans, work study).

Estimated Financial Aid Award Notification

You may receive an estimated financial aid award notification if we need additional information.  An estimated financial aid award notification is based upon the information you supplied on the FAFSA.  If you receive an estimated award notification, the U.S. Department of Education selected your FAFSA for verification and more information is required to verify your application data prior to issuing an official award letter.  Additional information might include a verification worksheet, an IRS tax transcript, documentation of citizenship etc.

The financial aid listed on an estimated award notification is not final. Awards may be adjusted after all outstanding documents are received and the file reviewed.  Funds will not be released until the verification process is completed.  Upon completion of the verification process you will receive an official award notification.

Official Financial Aid Award Notification

You will receive an official financial aid award notification if the U.S. Department of Education did not select your FAFSA for verification; however, you might be required to submit additional documentation to complete your file.  Additional information might include citizenship status, selective service information, etc.  All unsatisfied student requirements must be satisfied before any funds can be released.

Revised Financial Aid Award Notification

Once you have received an official financial aid award notification, revisions may occur if you receive an outside scholarship or you register for less credit hours.  Any changes or additions to an official financial aid award notification will be reflected on a revised financial aid award notification.  Revisions are sent as necessary.

Only aid from an official financial aid award notification or revised financial aid award notification will be released and credited to your student account.
