A Veterans Day Celebration at Purdue Calumet
Purdue University Calumet and Fifth Third Bank partnered to celebrate Veterans Day on campus Monday (11/11).
An early morning campus flag raising outside Lawshe Hall kicked off the observance. Then it was off to the Student Union & Library concourse, where Fifth Third Bank employees and Purdue Calumet students and staff collaborated in preparing 550 care packages of food items and toiletries, primarily for military personnel serving in Afghanistan.
The campus observance concluded with a 10 a.m. Convocation, featuring a keynote address by Betty Moseley Brown, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and associate director of the Department of Veteran Affairs’ Center for Women Veterans.
Purdue Calumet’s From Boots to Books: Veterans and Student Service Members Academe Support Program, the university’s Veterans Enlisted Student Association and Fifth Third Bank served as event sponsors. The Hammond Academy for the Performing Arts Combined Concert Band performed. Purdue Calumet Chancellor Thomas L. Keon and Fifth Third Bank Northern Indiana Senior Executive Craig Pratt, a U.S. air force veteran and Purdue Calumet alumnus, welcomed the audience.
