Sexual violence awareness program offered at Purdue Calumet Sept. 27

To increase awareness and support prevention of sexual violence, Purdue University Calumet is hosting RAINN (Rape, Abuse, & Incest National Network) Day, Thursday, Sept. 27 on campus.

Educational and sexual assault-related information, including recovery resources will be distributed from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the concourses of the Student Union & Library and Classroom Office Building, as well as from 11 a.m. to noon outdoors in Founders Plaza.

According to the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network, an American is sexually assaulted every two minutes. What’s more, college age women are four times more likely to be sexually assaulted than any other age group. Additionally, RAINN data indicates that 80 percent of sexual assault victims are younger than 30.

RAINN Day is sponsored by Purdue Calumet’s Counseling Center and Psi Chi (International Honor Society in Psychology), Student Health Services Center, the Office of Equity and Diversity, Housing and Residential Education, the Dean of Students Office, and the University Police Department.

Individuals can become further informed about RAINN Day, sexual assault and sexual violence by visiting or phoning the National Sexual Assault Hotline (800-656-HOPE).
