HAMMOND, Ind. — A Purdue University Calumet alumnus will share his story of working on nation-building projects in the Balkans and Afghanistan at 5 p.m., Thursday (2/9) on campus.
Portage native Scott Withrow will present “From Kosovo to Kabul: A PUC Graduate’s Experience with International State- Building” in YJean Chambers Hall of Purdue Calumet’s Student Union & Library.
Admission is free; light refreshments will be served.
Withrow, who earned baccalaureate degrees in political science and philosophy in 1999 at Purdue Calumet, has worked across southeastern Europe on various projects relating to post-conflict state building with the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe. He also has worked in Afghanistan with USAID’s Office of Transition Initiatives on stabilization efforts in Kunar Province.
Most recently, he served as a governance and development advisor for the Counter Insurgency Advisory and Assistance Team of recently-retired U.S. General David Petraeus, now CIA director.
Withrow also has studied international security issues related to ethnic conflicts in the Balkans at the graduate level and holds a graduate degree from Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs.
