Joy L. Colwell, former assistant dean for graduate studies in Purdue University Calumet’s School of Technology, has been appointed the university’s director of graduate studies.
In her new position, she provides leadership helping Purdue Calumet develop, expand and enrich master’s degree opportunities and administrative support services for graduate students. In response to a state objective, Purdue Calumet is strategically attempting to increase its master’s degree programming. More than 1,000 students are enrolled in master’s degree offerings within 12 areas of study, some with multiple degree options.
“Professor Colwell was instrumental in leading the Master of Science in Technology from a pilot program in 2008 to a successful degree program with 120 students,” Purdue Calumet Dean of the School of Technology Niaz Latif said.
Colwell said, “I am very pleased to be entrusted with this important position. Growth of the graduate programs is very important to our campus and area; it is a challenge to lead the Purdue Calumet graduate studies mission, but a rewarding one.”
Colwell has served Purdue Calumet since 1999. She holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from Indiana University. More information about Purdue Calumet graduate programs can be obtained by phoning 219/989-2257 or visiting http://webs.purduecal.edu/gradschool/graduate-programs/.
