Sixth, seventh and eighth graders can attend a summer writing camp at Purdue University Calumet where they can improve their writing skills and think creatively.
The Northwest Indiana Summer Writing Camp is scheduled weekdays, July 26-Aug 6, from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The registration deadline is July 23.
Students will participate in activities such as reading, journaling, creative writing assignments and a writers’ workshop, during which participants can give and receive feedback. At the end of the camp, there will be a celebration at which students can read their work to family members.
Camp Coordinator Connie Farrell said Meg Grandfield Demakas, a local author and artist, will visit the camp and assist students in writing and illustrations.
The camp fee is $100, and students will receive a camp T-shirt, flash drive, composition notebook, daily snacks and a class anthology of students’ work.
A brochure and registration form can be downloaded at http://www.nwiwp.com/downloads/writecampbroch.pdf. Additional information can be obtained by contacting Camp Coordinator Connie Farrell at firstname.lastname@example.org or 219/989-2299.
