Purdue University Calumet and its Chinese Student Association will host a 2008 Chinese New Year Celebration on campus Saturday (2/9).
The celebration is scheduled from 1:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. in Alumni Hall of the Student Union & Library. It will features games, entertainment, dinner and karaoke.
Also supporting the event is the Northwest Indiana Chinese School/Chinese Network, Purdue Calumet’s Center for International Programs and the University’s Student Activities Office.
Entertainment is scheduled from 2 p.m. to 4:30. Included are various instrumental and vocal musical performances, a Chinese Opera, poetry recitation, Hip-Pop performance, salsa and a fashion show. Performing will be students from Purdue Calumet and the Northwest Indiana Chinese School.
“I am very proud of the talents and dedication of our students in presenting this third annual celebration,” Purdue Calumet Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Chinese Student Association AdvisorÂ Chenn Zhou said.
Following more games at 4:30, dinner will be served from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., with karaoke to follow until 10 p.m.
Last year’s celebration attracted some 400 attendees.
Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 3-12. Children younger than 3 will be admitted at no charge.
