Donn Gobbie brings his 21 years of coaching experience to Purdue Calumet, as he is been put in charge of developing the Peregrine’s men’s tennis program.
Gobbie’s last coaching stop was at St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Ind., where he spent four seasons at the helm of the school’s NCAA Div. II men’s and women’s tennis programs while also serving as the school’s assistant athletic director and compliance officer. During his time at St. Joseph’s he was credited with rebuilding the men’s team, highlighted by a school-record 19 victories in 2004.
He has held a number of coaching positions throughout northwest Indiana during his career, working at a number of local high schools. Gobbie also had a two-year stint as the head coach for the women’s tennis program at Valparaiso University.
Gobbie has also been instrumental in the development of tennis and badminton organizations within the region, founding the Lakeshore Tennis Association in 1998, the Intercollegiate Badminton Association in 2007 and the National Badminton League in 2008.
Gobbie owns a P1 rating from the United States Professional Tennis Association and holds Level 1 coaching certificate from the United States Tennis Association, an organization in which he is a lifetime member.
Gobbie is currently pursuing a doctorate’s degree in health and kinesiology from Purdue University. He earned a master’s degree in sport management and athletic administration from Indiana University in 1996 as well as a degree in American studies from Purdue in 1992. Gobbie earned his undergraduate degree in English from Indiana University Northwest in 1986.
