The Nineties (1990’s)
Susan Stachler (BS – Marketing, 1994) Susan is Senior Research Associate for Enrollment Management & Marketing at DePaul University. She notes that as a research analyst at the largest Catholic university in the nation, she leads the design, development, execution and reporting of primary marketing research. The results of her work support the planning and decision making in the division of Enrollment Management and Marketing and the university community. Her advice to current students is “Get to know your professors better – talk to them about their academic interests and professional accomplishments. Take at least one external internship related to your degree and encourage someone, anyone (first generation, low income, returning adult, traditional student) to attend college and earn a degree.”
H. Paul Sori (BS – Marketing, 1995) Paul is Vice President with Wells Fargo Bank and recently received the Golden Spoke Award, Wells Fargo’s highest recognition award. Only 100 of 100,000 employees are awarded a Golden Spoke each year. Paul is currently financing the redevelopment of Woodmar Mall and Gateway Plaza (the old K-Mart on US 41) and notes that he is happy to be back in the area and excited to be able to give back to the community.
Denise Bergunder (BS – Marketing/HR, 1998) Denise is Regional Director of Operations for Starbucks Coffee, based in Indianapolis. She recently won the Spirit of Starbucks Award.
Cheryl Justak (BA – Human Resources, 1998) Cheryl is the Founder and President of Golf Club Masters, Inc which is a consulting firm that specializes in the golf industry. The firm currently publishes a Chicagoland golf guide, coordinate golf events and consults with golf clubs regarding service training and standards. She is interested in helping students who are interested in a career in sports advertising/sales as well as event planning. Cheryl has been busy traveling to Spain for her 25th wedding anniversary and traveled to Kauai in 2006 for her 30th weddng anniversary.
Scott Sandie (BS – Human Resources, 1999) Scott is Director of HR and Systems Devleopment for Standard Appliance, Inc in Portland, OR. Scott is the proud father of three kids… Mara, and twins Liam and Elsa.
The Aughts (2000’s)
Dawn Tall (BS – Human Resources, 2000) Dawn is the HR Manager for Pollution Control Industries in East Chicago. She was promoted to this position in July 2005 and recently received the HRPD Award in 2007.
Shannon Gouwens (BS – Human Resources, 2001) Shannon is Sr. Workforce Engagement Specialist with Blue Cross Blue Shield of IL. She recently received her PHR Certification in December of 2007. Congratulations Shannon!
Nicole Bulkowski-Fessler (BS – Human Resources, 2001) Nicole is the Corporate Risk Manager for White Lodging Services in Merrillville. She is also a CWCP (Certified Workers Compensations Profession). She notes she got married in May 2002 and had a little boy in June 2005.
Helen Kim (BS – Human Resources, 2002) Helen is an HR Rep with Citigroup. She just received her MBA in January of 2008 and gave birth to twin girls in April 2007. Helen also has a son. She is pursuing her MHR and PHR.
Charlene (Sims) Horton (BS – Marketing, 2002) Charlene is an Account Executive with CORESTAFF Services in Chicago. In June 2007 she won the Rookie of the Month award and in January 2008 she was named Salesperson of the Month. Charlene was married in 2003 to Ronald Horton.
Sherrill Adams (BS – Marketing, 2003) Sherrill is a Sales Representative for Cintas Corporation in Hammond. She recently was made a member of the Achievers Club.
Kimberly Schaefer (BS – Mgmt, 2005) Kimberly is the Set Execution Managers for JC Penny in Paradise Valley, Arizona. Kimberly notes she drove the Apache Trail in the Superstition Wilderness and plans on doing the Bisbee 1000 in October. The Bisbee 1000 is 1,000 stairs over the course of a 5K run!
Otis Brewer (BS – Human Resource Mgmt, 2007) Otis is pursuing the Master of Accountancy degree and just got a position as Special Agent with the Internal Revenue Service. He will start as a co-op (working and finishing the degree) and then transition to full time employment. Otis was the University’s graduation speaker in December 2007. Otis is also president of the school’s SHRM club for students.
