In addition to annually reporting mean/median full-time MBA salaries by function and industry, many top MBA programs also provide a list of employers that recruit and hire their MBAs.  Looking through a few lists will help you create your own targeted list of MBA employers.

The database LexisNexis Academic, available through the PUC Library and some public libraries, has a feature within the Business section titled Dossier Create a Company List.  A list of business can be developed based on private/public, headquarters/branch, number of employees, sales range, SIC code, NAICS code, country, state, city, county, zip code or area code.  Search results can be downloaded and exported into a Microsoft Office Excel file.

The 2008-2009 Indiana Business Directory and the Chicago Area Business Directory as well as the Downstate Illinois Business Directory, located in the Reference Section of the PUC Library as well as many public and academic libraries, contains business listing information for over 800,000 businesses in Indiana and Illinois.  In addition to the name of the owner/manager, the directory provides address, telephone number and ranges for the number of employees and estimated sales. Businesses can be sorted by SIC or by city.  PUC Reference Call Number: HF 5065 I6 I53 and HF 5065 I3 D68.

Interested in manufacturing?  The 2008 Indiana Manufacturers Directory lists over 12,000 businesses within Indiana.  Businesses are listed alphabetical, by parent company, by city, by county and also by SIC.  Available in the PUC Library, Reference Call Number: HD9727 I6 I53, as well as other public and academic libraries.

Interested in an international opportunity?  The Directory of Foreign Firms Operating in the United States, PUC Reference Call Number: HG 4057 A21943 2008, and Directory of American Firms Operating in Foreign Countries, PUC Reference Call Number: HG 4538.A1 D5 2007, can help create a list of target companies.

Do you have a Lake County Public Library Card?  Or a library card for your own local public library?  Many public libraries provide access to online databases that can help build lists of target companies by industry, size, revenues and location.  Dun & Bradstreet Million Dollar Database and Reference USA are both excellent list making resources.  Both are available through the Lake County Public Library.
