Program Details

  • How long does the program take to complete?
    • The program is18 months in length. It begins every September and students finish 18 months later in February.
  • Are there any breaks?
    • Yes, there are breaks within the modules, between the modules, for major holidays, and about a month long break during the summer.
  • What degree will I earn?
    • You will earn a Master of Business Administration granted by Purdue University
  • Are there any elective courses?
    • No, due to the cohort nature of the program, there are no elective offerings.
  • Are any of the classes offered online?
    • No, all of the courses are on the Purdue Calumet campus in Hammond, Indiana.
  • How long is class on Saturdays?
    • You have two different classes on Saturday – a morning class and an afternoon class. Your morning class will begin at 8:15am and will finish at 12:30pm. Your afternoon class will begin at 1:30pm and will finish at 4:45pm. Lunch will be served on campus between 12:30-1:30pm.

Curriculum

  • How many courses are required in the program?
    • There are a total of 17 courses. Some courses are four credit hours and others are two credit hours, totaling 47 total credit hours in the entire program.
  • How are grades assigned – do we have homework and tests?
    • Different course will utilize different grading elements. Throughout the program, you can expect homework assignment, case studies, quizzes, tests, presentations, and group assignments. You will receive a letter grade for each course in the program.

 Admissions

  • What is required for admission?
  • How many times per year do you admit students into the program?
    • We admit student once per year for the fall term.
  • How many students are admitted per year?
    • Approximately 25-30 students are admitted each year.
  • When is the deadline for admission?
    • We begin accepting applications on January 1st of each year and it is done on a rolling admission basis. Therefore, we encourage applicants to apply early to guarantee their seat.
  • Is the GMAT required?
    • The GMAT is not required for this program.

Program Fee & Financial Aid

  • What is the program fee for 2014-2016?
    • $45,000
  • What does the program fee include?
    • Tuition, fees, parking, iPad, financial calculator, e-books, course materials and cases, study abroad, meals and snacks, MBAE gear, and a graduation banquet.
  • Is the program fee due in a lump sum or in installments?
    • It is broken down into six payments and payment is due before the start of each module.
  • Will I qualify for financial aid?
    • Most of our Executive MBA students qualify for financial aid and it can cover a significant portion of the program. Students may qualify for federal loans as well as private loans.
  • Is there someone I can speak with about financial aid questions?

  • Is any portion of the program fee tax deductible?
    • Some expenses may fall under the IRS deductibility guidelines, but we always encourage students to speak with their tax professional about their own specific situations.

General

  • How are teams formed?
    • Study teams are organically formed by students, while project teams may include members of your study teams or faculty may assign team members.
  • What if I miss a class?
    • Although we discourage students from missing a class, we understand that life is full of unexpected events. In the instance that you cannot attend a class, contact should be made with your professors and group members. If you have the ability to join virtually, we can make arrangements prior to the start of class. Some classes are also recorded so students can review the missed content.
  • What is the difference between the Saturday program and the evening program?
    • The core curriculum in both programs covers the essential elements for an MBA degree. The Saturday MBA for Executives program is designed for working professionals with a minimum of 5 years of work experience and the teaching approach caters to older, more experienced students. The evening MBA program does not require work experience, but it requires the GMAT for admission. Classes are in the evening during the week and students typically take three years to finish their MBA degree.
  • What is the typical cohort profile?
    • We admit approximately 25 students per year into the program. The average student age is 37 with approximately 14 years of work experience, with nine years of those being managerial experience. Students come from diverse backgrounds including sales and marketing, accounting, engineering, healthcare, law and finance.

International Applicants

  • Is the TOEFL required?
    • International students must submit a satisfactory TOEFL or IELTS score report to be considered for admission. Exceptions are granted if the student graduated from an English speaking university.
  • What is the school code for TOEFL or IELTS score reports?
    • Purdue Calumet’s school code is 1638.
  • Do I need to submit additional application materials?
    • An English proficiency test result is required (TOEFL or IELTS) and we will also require your original transcripts and diploma in both the original language and English.
  • Does Purdue Calumet have an office to assist international students once they are admitted?
