Dr. Dolores Rinke, Professor of Accounting at Purdue University Calumet was accepted into the Fulbright Specialist Program. The Department of State’s Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs administers the Fulbright Specialist Program with the Council for International Exchange of Scholars. Once accepted into this prestigious program, grantees lecture and research across a wide variety of academic and professional fields.
As a Fulbright Specialist, Dr. Rinke will conduct seminars and workshops to educate students and train practitioners about the current developments in International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Corporate Governance in Turkey. Although Turkey has received more than 200 billion USD as foreign direct investment and portfolio investment in the past ten years, Turkey is seeking increased amount of foreign investment to provide sustainable growth for the next decade. In this regard, there is an increased interest in good corporate governance practices and the use of IFRS. The international banks and investors expect an improved investment climate to keep their interest in the Turkish market.
Professor Rinke has made presentations to the Finance Society in Turkey and is currently on the board of the Central Asian Productivity and Research Center (CAPRC) with Professor Karan of Hacettepe University in Ankara, the host university. In addition to the workshops and seminars, Professors Karan and Rinke will be working on the Silk Road conference which will take place in Chicago, IL in May of 2012.
