While MAcc students with undergraduate degrees in accounting will have the hours needed to apply for and take the CPA exam, MAcc students with undergraduate degrees in areas other than accounting may be required to take additional course work to apply and take the CPA exam. Both Indiana and Illinois currently require 150 hours with at least twenty-four (24) semester hours in accounting at the undergrad level or fifteen (15) semester hours in accounting at the graduate level. Course work must include financial accounting, auditing, taxation, and managerial accounting. In addition, at least twenty-four (24) semester hours in business administration and economic courses, other than accounting, must be taken. The twenty-four (24) business hour requirement may result in the need for undergraduates with degrees in areas other than accounting to take additional course work beyond the MAcc. Any additional courses needed , may however, be completed at PUC.
Each state establishes the requirements for taking the CPA examination.
