  1. Who May Borrow or Qualify For A Library Card

    1. Purdue University Calumet, North Central, and West Lafayette students:
      1. Purdue Calumet students must present a valid Purdue Calumet Student ID card.
      2. Purdue North Central and West Lafayette students must present a valid Purdue identification card (or current fee receipt) and a valid driver’s license, and must complete a Purdue Calumet Library Card application form.
    2. Purdue University Calumet, North Central, and West Lafayette Faculty, Administrators, Clerical and Service Staff:
      1. Purdue Calumet faculty, administrators, clerical and service staff must present a valid Purdue Calumet Staff ID card.
      2. Purdue North Central and West Lafayette faculty, administrators, clerical and service staffs must present a valid Purdue staff ID card and a valid driver’s license, and must complete a Purdue Calumet Library Card application form.
    3. Alumni of Purdue University. A Purdue University Alumni Association Card or Diploma or Final Transcript and a valid driver’s license must be shown. A Purdue University Alumni Library Card application form must be completed.
    4. Students and faculty from the state universities in Indiana including IUPUI and IUPUFW, Calumet College, and Notre Dame. A current valid college ID card (or current fee receipt) and a valid driver’s license must be presented and a Purdue Calumet Library Card application form must be completed.
    5. Residents of Indiana and Illinois who are 18 years of age and over, if their requests are not in conflict with the needs of Purdue students. These books are subject to immediate recall. A valid driver’s license or valid state identification card must be presented and a Purdue Calumet Library Card application form must be completed.
  2. Billing and Fees

    1. Borrowers agree to return library materials charged on their identification and to pay for lost or damaged materials. Borrowers also agree to pay a $10.00 Bursar overdue fee and/or a $25.00 encumbrance fee for failure to return long overdue library materials, for failure to pay for lost materials, and for failure to pay for damaged materials. The fees charged are listed on page 4 and are posted at the Library Circulation Desk. Failure to return or to pay for library materials is a violation of Indiana statutory law.
    2. Appeal Process: To appeal, borrowers who receive an overdue notice for library materials they believe have been returned to the Library can file a Says Returned at the Library Public Services Desk in person or by telephone.
    3. Borrowers are responsible for keeping their e-mail and U.S. Mail address current. Changes of address for students should be made through the Registrar and for faculty and staff by filing President’s Office Form 13.
  3. Use of Library Facilities

    1. Non-alcoholic beverages in covered containers can be consumed while in the Library except at computer workstations, copy machines, and microform printers. Small food portions may be consumed in the library.
    2. Children must be escorted by an adult and must be supervised at all times for their safety and to prevent disturbance to other library users.
    3. The Library is subject to federal and state laws concerning privacy and follows the Indiana Confidentiality Act (IC 5-14-3-4). Be advised that the USA Patriot Act allows for electronic surveillance of Internet usage and electronic communications by law enforcement agencies.
  4. Periodicals

    1. Only students, faculty and staff of Purdue University, the state universities in Indiana, Calumet College, and Notre Dame can borrow periodicals.
    2. Bound and unbound periodicals can be checked out for a three day loan.
    3. Periodical loans cannot be renewed.
    4. No more than five periodicals can be checked out.
  5. Books and Government Documents

    1. Reference Materials cannot be checked out of the Library. They can, however, be borrowed for classroom presentations by faculty and students.
    2. Circulating Books and Government Documents:
      1. Purdue Calumet undergraduate students, clerical staff, and service staff can check out ninety-nine for four weeks and can renew them once if an overdue notice has not been issued and if there is no hold for another borrower.
      2. Purdue Calumet graduate students can check out ninety-nine for eight weeks and can renew them once if an overdue notice has not been issued and if there is no hold for another borrower. The books are subject to recall after four weeks.
      3. Purdue Calumet faculty and administrators can check out any number for one year; the books are subject to recall after four weeks.
      4. Purdue Calumet lecturers can check out any number for the semester; the books are subject to recall after four weeks.
      5. Alumni of Purdue University can check out fifteen for four weeks and can renew them once if no overdue notice has been issued and if there is no hold for another borrower.
      6. University reciprocal borrowers can check out fifteen for four weeks and can renew them once if no overdue notice has been issued and if there is no hold for another borrower.
      7. Non-Purdue borrowers (borrowers with no valid Purdue identification) can check out ten for two weeks and can renew them once if no overdue notice has been issued and if there is no hold for another borrower.
  6. Teacher Education Resource Center (TERC)

    1. Purdue Calumet undergraduate students, graduate students, clerical and service staff can check out ninety-nine for four weeks and can renew them once if an overdue notice has not been issued and if there is no hold for another borrower.
    2. Purdue Calumet faculty and administrators can check out any number for one year. The loans are subject to recall after four weeks.
    3. Purdue Calumet lecturers can check out any number for the semester. The loans are subject to recall after four weeks.
    4. Alumni of Purdue University can check out fifteen for four weeks and can renew them once if an overdue notice has not been issued and if there is no hold for another borrower.
    5. University reciprocal borrowers can check out fifteen for four weeks and can renew them once if no overdue notice has been issued and if there is no hold for another borrower.
    6. Non-Purdue borrowers (borrowers with no valid Purdue identification) can check out ten for two weeks and can renew them once if an overdue notice has not been issued and if there is no hold for another borrower.
  7. Media

    1. Microforms cannot be checked out.
    2. Purdue Calumet undergraduate students, graduate students, non-Purdue borrowers, clerical and service staff can check out ninety-nine for four weeks and can renew them once if an overdue notice has not been issued and if there is no hold for another borrower.
    3. Purdue Calumet faculty, administrators, and lecturers can check out any number for eight weeks and can renew them once if an overdue notice has not been issued and if there is no hold for another borrower. The loans are subject to recall after four weeks.
    4. Alumni of Purdue University can check out fifteen for four weeks and can renew them once if an overdue notice has not been issued and if there is no hold for another borrower.
    5. University reciprocal borrowers can check out fifteen for four weeks and can renew them once if no overdue notice has been issued and if there is no hold for another borrower.
  8. Reserve Materials

    1. Only Purdue Calumet undergraduate students, graduate students, continuing education students, faculty, administrators, lecturers, clerical staff, and service staff can check out reserve materials.
    2. Reserve materials (limit of three items) can be checked out for the loan period designated by the faculty member:
      1. Library Use Only: Can be checked out for use in the Library for two hours.
      2. Three Day Loan: Can be checked out for three days.
      3. One Week Loan: Can be checked out for one week.
    3. Borrowers who do not return reserve material by the date and time designated on the date due slip will be restricted to library use of all reserve materials.
    4. The use of reserve materials is not restricted to members of the class for which the material is on reserve.
    5. All library materials can be recalled from the borrower for class reserve.

    * Overdue fees for Interlibrary Loans are assessed by the lending library.

    These charges allow for automated billings from the automated library system, encourage the return of library materials, and allow recovery of a reasonable amount for library materials. 10/87 Rev 7/09

  10. Interlibrary Loan

    Only students, faculty and staff of Purdue University, the state universities in Indiana, Calumet College, and Notre Dame are entitled to two-week Interlibrary Loans, renewable for two additional weeks if requested three days before the due date and if the lending library agrees and does not restrict the item to “library use only.” Any exceptions for periodical article requests by users without academic affiliated user status are at the discretion of the Library.

  11. Online Databases

    Only students, faculty and staff of Purdue University Calumet with valid Purdue Calumet ID’s have access to restricted databases. Our copyright license with suppliers prohibits use to all others including residents of Indiana and Illinois, Purdue alumni, and users from other state universities including IUPUI and IUPUFW, Calumet College, and Notre Dame.

  12. Electronic Books

    Only Purdue University Calumet undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, administrators, lecturers, clerical staff, and service staff can access electronic books.
