STUDY ABROAD FACULTY INFORMATION

The manual and documents below are provided to guide faculty members in designing and implementing study abroad programs. It is based on the manual used by faculty at Purdue University – West Lafayette entitled: “A Nuts & Bolts Manual for Departmental Study Abroad Programs.” Because of West Lafayette’s years of extensive and internationally recognized experience with study abroad, we use similar processes and policies – modified to suit the needs of Purdue University Calumet. The manual cites practices needed to optimize your program’s success.

More importantly, it provides a comprehensive pathway so that departmental study abroad programs will interface appropriately with other units in the campus community, such as the Office of the Registrar, the Office of Financial Aid and Student Accounts, and the Office of Student Affairs. This manual bridges these diverse but related needs with one chronology of tasks. And it points to the need to complete these tasks in a timely fashion.

The number of study abroad opportunities offered by PUC is increasing rapidly, due to the hard work of faculty in various departments across campus. To be sustainable, departmental study abroad programs must be truly reflective of departmental strategy and ownership.

The International Programs Office coordinates all departmental study abroad programs for Purdue University Calumet. Please contact IPO staff whenever you have questions, need advice or require clarification about any information in this manual.

We all look forward to working together to foster international education at Purdue University Calumet and to encourage students to experience life in a culture outside of the United States.
