Three Talented Professionals Join the IPO Staff for 2013

Tuesday, January 15th, 2013 - 3:26 pm

After significant growth in international student enrollment and our on-going efforts to offer enhanced international student services at Purdue Calumet and diverse educational opportunities overseas, the International Programs Office (IPO) is pleased to welcome three new staff members. The three will specialize in the areas of  the English Language Program (ELP), Sponsored Students, and Study Abroad, respectively.

Meet the new faces in IPO:

Jennifer Talley Rogers is our new Assistant Director of the English Language Program (ELP).  Jennifer will advise ESL students on academic matters and coordinate various administrative aspects of the ELP.  Jennifer comes to us from Kendall College where she served as Writing Support Specialist and Adjunct English instructor.  She brings a wealth of experience with the advising and instruction of ESL students.  Jennifer holds a Masters degree in English Language and Linguistics and a Bachelors in Journalism from the University of Wisconsin.  Jennifer’s position is a newly reconfigured one, replacing Beth Lair and James Darney (our former ELP Advisor/Continuing Lecturers, who left the University for positions in Chicago last summer).   Jennifer’s office will be in CLO 243 and she can be reached via phone at 989-4189.

Brenda Casteen is our new Sponsored Student Coordinator.  She will work with our growing population of students whose education is sponsored by their home governments.  This will include working with admissions, international student advising, and liaising with both academic departments and the governmental agencies.  Brenda comes to us from the United Arab Emirates’ Embassy in D.C. where she was an Academic Adviser to UAE sponsored students.  She holds a Bachelor’s degree in German and International Relations from Tulane University and a Masters in German from Georgetown.  Brenda’s office will be in CLO 176 and she can be reached at 989-2754.

Judy Moore is our new Education Abroad Coordinator.  She comes to us from North Georgia College and State University where she served as a Study Abroad Adviser.  She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Literature with a minor in Marketing from Ohio Northern University and a Masters in College Student Personnel from Bowling Green State University.  Judy will advise students seeking overseas study, exchange and other opportunities; work with faculty to develop and implement study abroad programs; and be involved with our intercultural outreach and programming.  Judy’s office is in CLO 228 and she can be reached at 989-2861.

Please join us in welcoming Brenda, Jennifer, and Judy to Purdue University Calumet.

International Photo Exhibit

Thursday, December 6th, 2012 - 9:45 am

The International Photo Exhibit allowed international students and students who have studied abroad to share their view of the world. A wonderful range of image submissions and interpretations of the “international” theme were submitted to the International Programs Office (IPO). The photos were reviewed by IPO staff members as well as  by photography instructor Thomas Roach. The best photos where selected based on technique, quality, and theme. The opening night of the first annual Photo Exhibit was a blast. On Tuesday, November 13th, an estimated 40 students and faculty who love photography attended this successful event organized by the International Programs Office.

International Education Week 2012A joint initiative of the U.S. Departments of State and Education, International Education Week (IEW) is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. In celebration of IEW 2012, the International Programs Office (IPO) invites members of the Purdue University Calumet community to expand your horizons and experience culture right here on campus…

Beginning on Monday, November 12th, and continuing on through Thursday, November 15th, we invite the entire campus community to take a tour of the first floor SULB concourse and test your knowledge about the world around you; learn about cultural events on campus, study abroad programs, international students and international student organizations, and have your name written in Arabic and Chinese characters. We’ll have information, games, trivia, prizes, and more! Monday-Thursday, Nov 12-15th, from 11am-2pm (First floor of the library building).

On Tuesday, November 13th, join us for a Special Post-Election Presentation on the 2012 Election Results and Global Relations (Brown Bag) in GYTE 103 at 12:30PM. Political Science Professors Richard Rupp & Meg Rincker will discuss the 2012 election and what the results mean for global relations. It’s a Brown Bag, so feel free to bring your lunch! This event is co-sponsored by Pi Sigma Alpha.

Also on Tuesday, at 3:30PM in CLO 310, there will be a Study Abroad Informational Session where students can learn about the benefits of study abroad programs and the many study abroad opportunities available to Purdue University Calumet students.

In addition, at 6:00PM IPO will host a special reception, International Photo Exhibit Opening Night, in CLO 176. You are cordially invited to attend the first showing of photographs taken around the world by Purdue University Calumet students and submitted for IEW 2012. Light refreshments will be served.
