Please join us in wishing a warm welcome to Dr. Maria Luisa Garcia-Verdugo as the new Interim Executive Director of the International Programs Office!
Dr. Garcia-Verdugo comes to IPO from the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, where she serves as the Department Head as well as a Professor.
Dr. Garcia-Verdugo’s involvement with International Education dates back to 1998 when she started a study abroad program in Spain for Purdue Calumet students. Her main professional interest is to help students to experience and enjoy new cultures and become world citizens. An international student herself, she hopes that all PUC international students will enjoy new cultures as much possible, make friends, study hard… but always remember to dedicate an hour each day to themselves – time she enthusiastically spends immersed in a good book. At IPO, she comes as the successor of Dr. Judith Pennywell, and will continue to oversee International Admissions, ESL, immigration, study abroad, cultural programming, education fairs, partnerships and agreements, as well as international marketing and outreach efforts.
Dr. Garcia-Verdugo gained her PhD from the State University of New York and her MA from Michigan State University. To read her full bio, please visit the Foreign Language Department’s website at: http://webs.purduecal.edu/foreign/people/faculty-and-staff-2/maria-luisa-garcia-verdugo/
IPO would like to congratulate Dr. Garcia-Verdugo on her new post and wish her best of luck!
