Athletics head Bunnell departs
Robert D. Bunnell, who headed Purdue Calumet’s athletics program the past four years as assistant vice chancellor for health, recreation and sports, resigned this summer to become associate professor and academic program director for Sports and Entertainment Management at Neumann (PA) University. Athletics consultant and retired athletics director John Friend has agreed to head Purdue Calumet athletics on an interim basis until the search for a successor is completed. Under Bunnell’s direction, Purdue Calumet athletics embarked on a growth and expansion initiative, plans of which are continuing.
NAIA Scholar Teams
Four Purdue Calumet athletic squads—women’s basketball, men’s and women’s tennis, and women’s volleyball—earned National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Scholar Team recognition during 2010-11. Squads whose student-athletes compiled a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (4.0 scale) earned the recognition.
Men’s basketball honored
The 2010-11 Purdue Calumet men’s basketball squad was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference’s inaugural Champions of Character Team. The recognition honors the conference team that best demonstrates the NAIA’s Five Core Values: integrity, respect, responsibility, servant leadership and sportsmanship.
