5 inducted in Purdue Calumet Athletic Hall of Fame
Five individuals from Purdue University Calumet’s distinctive sports past were inducted into the university’s Athletic Hall of Fame during campus homecoming festivities Saturday, Nov. 7.
The inductees are: 1980s basketball standouts Ed Blackmon and LeeAnn DeYoung; 1970s soccer honoree Rod Weingart; 1980s & ‘90s men’s basketball coach Larry Liddle; and longtime coach, athletic director, faculty member and statistician Bob Hayes. Additionally, the annual Purdue Alumni Calumet/Bob Hayes Athletic Alumni Award was presented to women’s basketball player alumna Dori Downing. The award annually recognizes a Purdue Calumet graduate who has distinguished one’s self in athletics and/or his/her career. Downing has achieved success as a school teacher and 13-year head girls basketball coach at nearby Calumet High School.
