Our Hospitality and Tourism Management program at Purdue University Calumet has been educating students since 1981 and has decided to recognize the School Foodservice professional with its own Certificate in School Nutrition and Food Services.

We are very excited to offer this latest certificate program, completely online. The Certificate in School Nutrition and Food Services (CSN) program is designed primarily for those who are already working in the School Nutrition and Food Services (on-site) sector of the Hospitality Industry.

The program is designed for practitioners who desire a specialized credential in School Nutrition and Food Services that emphasize strong supervisory and managerial hospitality skills that can help them meet employer requirements.

The CSN certificate can also provide career opportunities to enhance existing school nutrition and food service ability and assist those who are considering a change in career direction.

Why Choose the Certificate in School Nutrition & Food Services
The hospitality and tourism industry includes lodging, restaurants, food services, travel and tourism. In the Food Services segment covers on-site, contracted and self-operated units that are mostly not-for-profit operations that serve the following:

  • Schools and Community Food Services
  • Business and Industry
  • Colleges and Universities
  • Health Care
  • Recreation/Clubs/Transportation
  • Vending Food Operations

All are unique, different, specialized but still part of this dynamic Hospitality and Tourism Industry. This segment serves people where they live and work, play and study, and recreate and heal.

Program Requirements
The CSN program requirements include completion of 25 credit hours of coursework. That’s only nine courses and they are all ONLINE!!!

Coursework has been designed with the guidance of experienced and degreed practitioners in the field and should meet the applicant’s needs for basic personal development, education and recognition in their school district.

At 25 credits (9 courses) it is reasonable in scope, deliverable online and doable (one to two years) for most working in the industry and those who may desire to change careers and pursue work in On-Site Food Services.

You can complete the program in your choice of three academic plan rotations: 1-year; 1½-year; 2-year (see below).
