Process to Hire a Temporary Employee

We recognize that instances arise where you may require temporary staff for a variety of reasons including vacations, leaves of absence, special projects, and seasonal peaks.

Information Required

Please state the following information in order to get the process started quickly and efficiently:

  • Duration of assignment
  • Anticipated start date of assignment
  • Anticipated work hours (e.g., 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., etc.)
  • Rate of hourly pay  (Human Resources generally recommends a pay range of between $10 and $11 per hour, based on the pay level 4 on the pay scale for temporary employees.)
  • Any particular skill(s) you’d like the successful candidate to possess (e.g., budgetary experience, etc.)

Review Process

Human Resources will then review resumes within our pool of temporary employee candidates.  You will then be provided with between three and five resumes from which to choose candidates for interview.

Human Resources will then contact the candidates whose resumes you most like in order to market the assignment to them and determine their interest.

Interview Process

The next step is to set up interviews which are generally handled by the hiring department’s secretarial support.  However, if there is no one available to provide such assistance, Human Resources will be happy to schedule the interviews for you.

Once a final candidate has been selected, an offer needs to be extended by either the department or Human Resources.  Once it has been accepted, the necessary paperwork must be processed prior to the candidate’s start date.
