Employment Verification

Purdue University has contracted with The Work Number (TWN) [Opens in New Window] for automated employment and income verifications. Access to The Work Number (TWN) [Opens in New Window] and FAQs can be accessed via the this link Employment Verification Information [Opens in New Window].

As an employee, you will benefit from having control of the process since you authorize any access to your information for verifiers.  TWN is widely known to mortgage lenders, banks, apartment complexes, and others who may need proof of an employee’s employment or income. All data is stored in a secure data center. TWN can be used anytime, anywhere – available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

How Does TWN Work?

To provide employment verification only (no income information) to a lender or rental agent:
Your lender or rental agent should:

  1. Log in to http://www.theworknumber.com , or call 1-800-367-5690
  2. Enter the Purdue University Employer Code (14300)
  3. Enter your (the employee’s) Social Security number

If you wish, you can print and complete this TWN instruction form and provide it to the  lender or rental agent.

To provide both employment and income verification to a lender or rental agent:
You will need to create a salary key to authorize a lender or rental agent to obtain income verification information.

To create a salary key, you will need to:

  1. Access The Work Number website
  2. Login using Purdue Career Account username and password.  If you don’t know your username or password, contact the IT Services Help Desk at 1-6030
  3. Select Create a Salary Key from the menu
  4. Click on Create a Salary Key
  5. Your salary key number will appear.  You can print this number, or email it to your requester.

Note that you will need a separate salary key for each lender or rental agent.

Your lender or landlord should then:

  1. Log in to http://www.theworknumber.com , or call 1-800-367-5690
  2. Enter the Purdue University Employer Code (14300)

To provide both employment and  income income to a social service agency
The social service agency will need to have registered first with TWN via the Internet or by phone (1-800-996-7566).  Since TWN is a major provider of employment verification services, your social service agency is likely to have already registered.   Once the social service agency is registered, the case worker should:

  1. Log in to http://www.theworknumber.com , or call 1-800-660-3399
  2. Provide the fax number that was used during registration
  3. Enter the Purdue University Employer Code (14300)
  4. Enter your (the employee’s) Social Security number
  5. Specify whether employment or employment plus income information is needed.

If you wish, you can print and complete this TWN instruction form and provide it to the case worker.
