Purduecal.edu Domain Change Information

Description:

On May 31, 2012, the calumet.purdue.edu domain will be shut off as the final step in Purdue Calumet’s transition to the purduecal.edu domain. This means that calumet.purdue.edu will no longer exist and will be completely replaced by purduecal.edu.

How will this affect me?

  • You will be unable to access any website that has “calumet.purdue.edu” as part of its URL*.
  • Emails sent to your old @calumet.purdue.edu email address will no longer be forwarded to your @purduecal.edu email and you will therefore not receive anything that is originally sent to your calumet.purdue.edu address.

*A URL is the address you type into the address bar of your Internet browser, such as www.purduecal.edu or www.google.com.

What should I do?

  • Make sure that any accounts you may have that use your Purdue Calumet email are updated to reflect purduecal.edu. This includes accounts such as on websites like facebook, Linkedin or Amazon, as well as any mailing lists you may be on.
  • Make sure that any bookmarks/favorites you have are updated to direct to purduecal.edu and not calumet.purdue.edu.
  • Make sure to update all contacts in your work, student and personal email accounts that may still be under calumet.purdue.edu.
  • Inform your contacts that your email address has changed from calumet.purdue.edu to purduecal.edu. You can do this by simply adding a line to your email signature regarding this.

How can Information Services (IS) assist?

  • In order to help determine who is still sending e-mails to a calumet.purdue.edu e-mail address, an e-mail filter has been implemented. This e-mail filter will let you know every day that an e-mail was sent to your account but to the calumet.purdue.edu domain. This will allow you to determine with whom you need to update your e-mail address. The e-mail filter will send you an e-mail with the subject [“Calumet email messages quarantined since <date stamp>”] and it will be structured similar to the PureMessage Admin e-mails we receive from the spam filter at Purdue West Lafayette.  You can distinguish the Purdue University Calumet e-mail filter e-mails from the Purdue West Lafayette PureMessage Admin e-mails by the color of the e-mail list in the e-mail body.  See example below:

  • In order to view the email messages the e-mail filter sends you, you must be using an e-mail client such as Outlook and not a web-based e-mail account such as; Yahoo, Google, or Outlook Web Access.  Click on each message ID to view each e-mail.
  • This webpage will be regularly updated with new information and changes. If you have further questions, please contact the Customer Service Center at extension 2888 option 2, or email them at csc@purduecal.edu.

As the date for the domain change draws near, email reminders and portal announcements with information and changes will be sent out to the campus.
