Sam Williams 2010-11 Service Employee of the Year

Williams, who joined the Purdue Calumet staff in 1996, has been described as dependable, trustworthy, respected and hard working, among other attributes. “It gives a person a sense of pride and accomplishment to win an award like this,” Williams said. “It means that the tasks I perform do not go unnoticed by the campus community.”

Karen Sullivan 2010-11 Outstanding Administrator of the Year

Sullivan said of her award, “Words can’t explain how honored I feel. This was a team win as I could not do what I do without my staff.” Sullivan has been an employee at Purdue Calumet since 1995 and oversees building services and campus grounds.

Collins Glass, Jr. 2009-10 Service Employee of the Year

Three local residents have been named Purdue University Calumet’s outstanding employees for the 2009-10 fiscal year.

Fitness Center Coordinator John Bobalik of Munster earned the Outstanding Administrator Award. Another Munster resident, Dell Dumas, secretary in the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment, received the Outstanding Clerical Award. Collins Glass Jr. of Gary, a grounds equipment operator, accepted the Outstanding Service Staff Award.

Bobalik, a university employee since 1995, said it is “a privilege and honor” to accept his award, because it recognizes the Fitness Center as an enhancement of Purdue Calumet.

“The award represents acknowledgment, recognition and endorsement from co-workers, colleagues and university officials that the Fitness Center staff is providing programs and activities that fall in line with Purdue Calumet’s strategic plan and make the university a better place for all,” Bobalik said.

Dumas said she is honored to accept her award on behalf of peers who work tirelessly to carry out the university’s mission and strategic vision.

“We support our students, as well as each other, on a daily basis,” the four-year university employee said, “and I am simply a product of teamwork and mentoring that I have been fortunate enough to experience.”

Glass, who joined the university staff in 1996, said he is surprised and humbled to be recognized for his work on campus.

“I treat [campus grounds] as my own property,” he said.

All three employees were honored at Purdue Calumet’s annual service recognition luncheon.

Becky Jarvis 2008-09 Service Employee of the Year

Purdue University Calumet has recognized three staff members as Outstanding Employees of 2008-09.

Martin Denkhoff, Jr. of Highland was named Outstanding Administrator;

Rebecca Jarvis of Lake Station, Outstanding Service Staff Employee; and

Rebecca Benson of Highland, Outstanding Clerical Staff Employee.

They were honored at the university’s recent Employees Service Recognition Luncheon.

Jarvis, a Building Services custodian, was introduced as “a courteous and hardworking employee who always exceeds expectations. She takes the initiative to go beyond standard procedures to do the job to the utmost.” The 21-year employee has been characterized by her nominators as “understanding, uncomplaining, friendly, cheerful, helpful, detail-oriented, and a committed leader.” “I feel blessed and honored in being chosen this year and having been nominated in past years, because there are so many deserving individuals,” she said. “I continue to find enjoyment servicing and assisting others to be successful so as to be successful myself. . .”
