Certificate in Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD)
A certificate will be awarded upon successful completion of courses in the specialty area of Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD). This certificate program provide the participant the necessary knowledge and background to create computer generated drawings using 2D and 3D CAD systems and animation software. The power of Autodesk Inventor & ProEngineer to generate parametric, feature-based solids that can easily be manipulated will also be explored in this curriculum.
Students are prepared to take on challenges as CAD operators/ designers and will be able to generate CAD drawings for most industrial settings. This certificate is ideally suited for individuals currently employed as draftspersons/designers or those who are planning a career change. The sequence of courses will provide a thorough background in the area of Computer Aided Drafting/Design. All courses taught will count toward a degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology.
What can you do after completion of this certificate:
- Be familiar with drafting principles, piece part and assembly drawing.
- Be able to generate two- and three-dimensional drawings as well as solid models.
- Generate parametric, feature-based solids and assemblies using Inventor, Solidworks and CREO Parametric.
- Create animations using 3DS Max.
- Will be trained to be a top of the line CAD operator and designer.
Certificate Requirements: Completion of four courses:
- MET 100 Production Drawing and Computer-Aided Design
- MET 102 Production Design & Specifications
- CGT 241 Introduction to Animation and Spatial Graphics
- MET 305 CAD use in Parametric Modeling
Certficate in Computer Networks
Computer Network specialists are the backbone of the IT department and are responsible for network security.
The computer network courses involved in this certificate program include the four semester Cisco curriculum that prepares students for the CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate). These courses will give participants a working knowledge in network protocols and hardware, as well as the background to work with both existing and emerging technologies in Local and Wide Area computer networks. The required labs will provide hands-on experience in related cabling and network components such as hubs, Cisco routers and switches, and in installing, troubleshooting, and configuring both Local and Wide Area networks.
After obtaining this certificate you will be able to:
- Understand, identify and apply network protocols, standards and architectures.
- Identify and select the necessary hardware components needed to build computer networks.
- Install, manage, and troubleshoot a Local Area Network (LAN), both at the hardware and software level.
- Configure Local and Wide Area Networks using internetworking devices such as Cisco routers and switches.
Certificate Requirements: Completion of three courses:
- ECET 265 Computer Networks
- ECET 367 Internetworking and TCP/IP
- ECET 465 Advanced Topics in Computer Networks
Certificate in Industrial Process Control Instrumentation
Whether pursuing a new career path or enhancing your skill sets for the job you already have, a certificate in Industrial Process Control Instrumentation will prepare better students by providing hands-on training in the skills required to install and calibrate instruments used for process control applications.
This course emphasizes skills relating to specific instruments used to measure pressure, temperature, flow or level. It provides a basic understanding required by anyone working in this rapidly changing industry.
Entrants to this certificate program should have knowledge and training in the areas of DC and AC circuits and basic high school math skills. In case of background deficiency, entrants to this certificate will be directed to take appropriate remedial courses.
After obtaining this certificate you will be able to:
- Troubleshoot problems in industrial process control equipment and machines.
- Select components and subassemblies for an industrial process control project.
- Design and build process control projects with computer interfacing for the improvement of industrial processes.
- Troubleshoot and design systems using programmable logic controllers.
Certificate Requirements: Completion of eight courses: This certificate can be obtained in two parts:
Part I (Certificate of Electronic and Pneumatics Instrumentation)
- ECET 212 Electrical Power and Machinery
- ECET 214 Electricity Fundamentals
- ECET 217 Introduction to Process Control
- ECET 262 Programmable Logic Controllers
- MET 230 Fluid Power
Part II (Certificate of Industrial Process Control Instrumentation)
- Part I plus the following courses:
- ECET 330 Industrial Programming & Networking
- ECET 362 Process Control Instrumentation
- ECET 462 Application of Computers in Process Control
This certificate includes course work in Lean Six Sigma quality methods that will prepare participants to work effectively in executing activities within organizations to achieve long term profits. Through course work grounded in Industrial and Systems engineering principles, participants will learn how to implement successful business practices such as focusing on customer satisfaction, waste elimination, and elevation of employee skills so that defects can be eliminated at their source. This set of courses may also be used to aid as a review of the Body of Knowledge applicable to relative professional certification exams.
