The Purdue University Calumet Advantage

Purdue Calumet is the leader in Equine Business Management Research

This program has received the “Distinguished Education Award for Creative and Innovative Education” from the Academy of Educational Leadership.

The Indiana Horse Council endorses the program, stating the program “will be valuable and will have a positive influence on the equine industry in Indiana, as well as wherever the graduates may choose to use the degree.”

Purdue University Calumet, in partnership with Purdue West Lafayette, is only university that houses an agriculture, vet sciences and business program that specializes and prepares students for careers in the multi-billion dollar horse industry.

Purdue Calumet is one of only three universities in the nation to have an equine program housed in an accredited School of Management, focusing on the business aspects of the equine industry.

Equine programs at other colleges and universities focus primarily on the care and maintenance of horses, however our innovative program, housed in a premier School of Management, fully understands that the horse industry involves high dollar investments that require strong business management skills.

    Many of our graduates hold leadership positions in major equine facilities in Northwest Indiana and Chicago.

    Faculty members hold doctoral and/or masters degrees, have expertise in a variety of practice and research areas, and have a strong commitment to teaching. You also will find opportunities to pursue research with individual faculty members.
  • Flexible schedules
    Classes are part-time or full-time. Courses are offered both day and evening. On-line classes are also available.
  • Extensive internship resources
    You may pursue internships at of our highly coveted internship sites. Internships are done under the guidance of faculty who are highly qualified experts in their areas. In addition, internships are completely individualized to meet your learning needs.

    Throughout the program, you are encouraged to focus on areas of your own interest. Many opportunities for personal and professional development exist.

Degree seeking students receive a Purdue University Bachelor of Arts degree in Business with a major in Equine Business Management, ensuring a solid foundation in core business areas, such as-marketing, accounting, finance, information systems, human resources and operations management- in addition to 30 credit hours dedicated to the equine business and related equine fields.
