The decision to pursue a healthcare career can occur anytime. At Purdue University Calumet we recognize that people come to this decision at many stages in their lives. Some recognize early, others by trial and error, and still others after having first begun a different career. Regardless of where you are at in the process of moving toward a healthcare career, we can help you reach your goal.
Most health professions schools do not require a specific college major. If you already know which major you want to study as you complete pre-medical or pre-health requirements, you can apply for direct admission. When you apply to Purdue University Calumet, just select a specific major. In a separate field you should indicate your career interest in a specific direction (medicine, dentistry, etc), or you can indicate a general interest in health professions.
You know that you want a career in healthcare, but are not certain which college major you should choose. You are not alone. Many students start this way. Just choose “undecided” as your major, and tell us your career interest in pursuing a specific or general healthcare professions career. This direction is ideal for those who want time to explore degree options while taking courses that are required for later entry into professional medical or healthcare schools of your choice.
Typical first year courses include:
Introductory Analysis (math)
Fundamentals of Speech
Introduction to Sociology
