Working Smarter 2012

This is a fantastic event designed and coordinated every year by Wes Lukoshus, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Advancement. The program is designed to provide insights and hints for individuals seeking a job, redirecting their career, returning to the work force, approaching a career choice crossroad, contemplating a business venture or wanting to build on their education.

The Center for Entrepreneurship Success provided audience members options to entrepreneurship. In today’s economic downturn, many people are struggling to find meaningful jobs. Many are relying on their skills to create opportunities but don’t know where to begin. The presentation highlighted how people can turn their dreams into reality.

The Big Sell Entrepreneurs in Action Competition 2012

The Big Sell was created to offer people with big dreams a great opportunity to put those ideas into action. Every applicant who is selected will have two minutes to sell their idea to Audience members and some of the best and brightest business minds in the region. Winners have an opportunity to share more than $60,000 in cash in prizes. The competition was held on March 31, 2012 at the Radisson Star Plaza in Merrillville, Indiana.

E-Factor: Shine and Be Noticed

On February 23, 2012 in celebrating National Entrepreneurship Week, Purdue University Calumet’s Center for Entrepreneurship Success had over 300 regional high school and collegiate students attend an event to show these young people how to begin their journey and pursue their entrepreneurial dreams. This was an educational, motivational and inspiring workshop that showcased stories of young entrepreneurs and how these young people began their entrepreneurial journeys.

The Big Sell Free Coaching Session

This is a coaching session for contestants competing at the Big Sell Entrepreneurs in Action Competition on February 8, 2012. This session is to give competitors advice and answer any questions in preparing for their big moment.

2012 Big Sell Kickoff

Kickoff brought together past competitors, sponsors and supporters.  The event was collaboration between Purdue University Calumet and the City of Hammond to promote economic development through entrepreneurship. Great turnout considering our first winter storm.

What’s My First Step?

Starting a business is one of life’s most exciting times and something that most people dream of. It is the foundation upon which our country was built, and why people from across the globe try to reach our shores. Today, in this recession and with the lack of job opportunities, more and more people are looking to their ideas and skills to start a business.

Having a great idea, however, means nothing if you don’t take the right steps. Most people sit on their ideas because they don’t know where to begin or how to realize their dreams.  We can help! This workshop helps people assess their skills and explains what should be their first step in developing their new business, while motivating them to follow their dreams.

The Big Sell Business Plan Course

After a successful entrepreneurship competition, the Center for Entrepreneurship Success designed a new business plan course not only to help budding entrepreneurs develop their blueprint for success, but also, to help participants get ready to pitch their ideas in the next Big Sell competition on March 31, 2012.

The Big Sell Entrepreneurs in Action Competition 2011

Business Marketing Course

This course will identify the marketing process, marketing mix (product, price, promotion and place), and introduce you to some of the concepts and strategies that professional marketing experts in large companies use. This will enable you to develop a marketing strategy for your company to follow so that your small business can thrive.

Business Plan Workshop

Many budding entrepreneurs want a business plan but panic at the thought of writing one. This workshop helps these entrepreneurs break down the business plan into manageable parts and to begin writing their plan for success. Being that this is a workshop, participant get to work together and receive more hands-on help.

Business Feasibility Workshop

Do you have an idea for a new business but are unsure of the feasibility of your idea? Do you want to see if your business idea will be profitable? Do you want to know if your business idea will meet your personal objectives? Do you want to get financing to start your business?

This workshop helps to answer these questions and prepares budding entrepreneurs.

Boss Summit

The Center for Entrepreneurship Success participated with a PUC student organization to help create this interactive event to help students develop their leadership skills and identify their ultimate goals.

NxLevel Business Plan Course

The Center for Entrepreneurship Success offered a 7 week NxLevel Business Plan Course designed for entrepreneurs who want to start a new business venture and/or those that are seeking to expand an existing business. The course was designed to help entrepreneurs develop and create a comprehensive business plan that will serve as a blue print in their business success.

Business Basics – What is My First Step?

Many people want to start a business but don’t know where to begin or what it takes to establish a new venture. This workshop helps people assess their skills and explains what should be their first step in developing their new business.

The workshop covered Business Law with Angela Crossin, Business Finance with Pat Obi, Business Coaching with Theresa Valade, Greg Boyan with Hammond Innovation Center, and Dushan Nikolovski with Business Planning.

Entrepreneurship Boot Camp

Center for Entrepreneurship Success took a bus of aspiring students from Purdue University Calumet to the Indiana Economic Development Corporation’s Entrepreneurship Boot Camp in Indianapolis for a full day of activities and opportunities. College students from the entire State were present and participating.

Stakeholders Event

Event that brought together local area businesses, government leaders, economic development organizations, educators and institutions of higher education to promote cooperation between all Stakeholders of Northwest Indiana in working together to facilitate regional economic development.

Collegiate Boot Camp

Purdue University Calumet students had an opportunity to participate in a day long collegiate boot camp in Indianapolis, Indiana. Students had an opportunity to receive great advice from some of the country’s largest corporations based in Indiana. But more importantly, PUC students had an opportunity to interview with these great companies on the spot at the boot camp.
