The Department of Foreign Languages & Literatures prepares students to work in careers that require competences in languages and cultures in our increasingly interdependent world. Students gain an understanding of the contemporary society of the target language through its literature and its civilization. This goal is achieved through the use of sources such as books, films, Internet, television and radio broadcasts, foreign press, community interaction and study abroad. Our language programs develop student abilities in attentive listening, proficient speaking, accurate writing, critical reading, and cross-cultural understanding.
