CIVS had strong participation in the 2014 AISTech conference held by the Association for Iron & Steel Technology. In addition to hosting a booth at the conference, CIVS students won first place in the Undergraduate Student Project Presentation Contest, and presented 2 Graduate Student Poster Contest entries, 2 Undergraduate Student Project Presentation Contest entries, and 3 technical papers.
This international competition is highly selective, only about one third of the total applications were selected to enter the final contest. The final contest includes undergraduate students from many top universities all over the world such as University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) from the U.S., University of Toronto from Canada, Federal University of Ouro Preto (UFOP) from Brazil, and the University of Science and Technology from China.
CIVS students were selected to compete with students from top universities and, for the third year in a row, have won first-place in this competitive international contest. CIVS students’ research has been recognized by the judges and by the steel industry.
By having the opportunity to work with many CIVS collaborators directly from industry, CIVS students are able to combine in-depth academic theory with practical application-driven approach. The recognition and these awards reflect the quality of students’ work and research at Purdue University Calumet.
AISTech was attended by over 6,900 students, staff, and industry representatives this year.
