Chenn Zhou, director of Purdue University Calumet’s Center for Innovation through Visualization and Simulation, delivered the keynote address at the Baosteel BAC 2013 academic steel conference in Shanghai, China June 6.
Zhou, also a professor of mechanical engineering and interim associate vice chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies, addressed the topic, “Application of Simulation and Visualization Technologies in Steel Manufacturing.” More than 500 individuals representing steel companies, universities and research institutes from 20+ nations and regions attended the conference, which focused on meeting steel’s new challenges.
The conference serves an open international platform for scientists and engineers in the steel industry to exhibit their academic and scientific achievements, as well as promote technical exchange and cooperation.
Purdue Calumet’s Center for Innovation through Visualization and Simulation (CIVS) combines advanced simulation techniques with 3-dimensional visualization modeling and virtual reality technologies to solve research problems and address industrial challenges.
Zhou, a Munster resident, has served Purdue Calumet since 1994. She holds baccalaureate and master’s degrees from Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics and a Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon University.
