Chenn Zhou, Purdue Calumet professor of mechanical engineering and director of the university’s Center for Innovation through Visualization and Simulation (CIVS), has been appointed to the Association for Iron and Steel Technology (AIST) Foundation Board of Trustees.
Part of the international professional and technical association of professional and student members, the AIST foundation seeks to attract technology-oriented professionals to the steel industry.
Zhou, who has served Purdue Calumet since 1994, is the only academic representative on the board, which includes presidents, directors, and other high-ranking industry officials.
“I feel humbled to be on this board and will try to make valuable contributions,” Zhou said. “As the only member on the board from academia, I can especially help with the issues related to research, curriculum and student scholarships. This also provides a wonderful opportunity for me to interact with leaders in the steel industry as well as gain great exposure for our university.”
The Munster resident holds baccalaureate and master’s degrees from Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics in China and a doctorate in mechanical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.
