Office of Naval Research’s Photos – Exploration Earth: Mission Ocean

Exploration Earth: This month, students in Hammond, Ind., participated in a 3-D submarine simulation at Purdue University. The program, Exploration Earth: Mission Ocean, is in part sponsored by ONR to support science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) initiatives in primary and secondary education.

Middle school students from Hammond, Ind., on the Mission Ocean team approach a submarine volcano as part of the 3-D Exploration Earth: Mission Ocean submarine simulation. The program, in part sponsored by ONR, supports science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in K-12 curricula.

Students participating in the ONR-sponsored Exploration Earth: Mission Ocean program control 3-D submarines from a web-based multi-user interface. Stations include: dive, drive, trim/main ballast, propulsion, navigation and research. The program supports STEM education in K-12 curricula.
