Dr. Yahya R. Kamalipour is professor of mass and international communication, head of the Department of Communication and Creative Arts, and Director of the Center for Global Studies, Purdue University Calumet , Indiana, USA. His areas of interest and research include globalization, media impact, international communication, advertising, cultural diversity, stereotyping, Middle East media, and new communication technologies. He has delivered invited speeches in every continent, been interviewed by numerous global media, and published 14 books, including Global Communication (2nd edition) and most recently, Media, Power, and Politics in the Digital Age: The 2009 Iranian Presidential Election Uprising in Iran. In addition to serving on the advisory and editorial boards of a number of prominent communication journals and professional organizations, Kamalipour is the founder and managing editor of Global Media Journal, co-founder and co-editor of Journal of Globalization for the Common Good, and founder of the Global Communication Association.
Kamalipour has given presentations in Australia, Austria, Egypt, Canada, China, India, Iran, Germany, Greece, Kenya, Malaysia, Mexico, Oman, Poland, Russia, Slovenia, Spain, Turkey, United States, and has been interviewed by numerous newspapers and broadcast media, including BBC, Reuters, ABC, VOA, RFL/RL, WBEZ-NPR, NileTV, Radio France International, Turkish TV, Indian TV, Iranian TV, Metro Networks, Detroit Free Press, Indianapolis Star, Quill Magazine, Philadelphia Inquire, The Pittsburgh Tribune, The Times, and Post-Tribune. He has taught courses at universities in Ohio, Illinois, Missouri, Indiana, Iran, and Oxford (England). His articles have appeared in professional and mainstream publications in the U.S. and abroad.
He earned his Ph.D. in Communication at the University of Missouri-Columbia; MA in Mass Media from the University of Wisconsin-Superior, and BA in Mass Communication from the Minnesota State University. With over 30 years of teaching and administrative experience, he has been at Purdue University Calumet since 1986.
