Student Stories

Ryan Mihalic

“I decided to go to Purdue Calumet for a variety of reasons. The size of the classes was one of the major factors that influenced my decision. The smaller class size allowed me more interactions with the instructors, which allowed me to succeed and to do well. As I progressed through my academic years and went into the higher level classes I found that the class sizes began to shrink. This allowed even more opportunity to have interaction with my instructors so that I could better comprehend the material being taught. The interaction with my professors allowed me to learn from them and to make strong relationships that have strengthened my collegiate career. Through them I began to perform research in several subject areas that allowed me to better comprehend material. My decision was further reassured when several of my friends that had went away to larger colleges to study the same subjects as me came home and told me that they had either done very poor or had changed majors all together, Many people tell me that studying biology is very difficult and not for them. My response has always been that they haven’t found the right surroundings to help them succeed.”

“I am convinced that the PUC Biology Program was the right choice for me. Every Biology Professor is always available to answer questions, while constantly challenging me to succeed and work harder. The tight-knit Biology Department gives each student the chance to ask questions and learn one-on-one with Professors, something my experiences with other universities lacked. My PUC advisers have counseled me through the dental school application process and I’m confident that I’m prepared to succeed.”

“As an international student, I have always had the passion and enthusiasm to pursue advanced study of molecular biology in the U.S. I am so fortunate that at PUC I received not only knowledge, but also the ability to think and problem solve, which is more than I expected. I appreciate all the advice that I have received from my professors and classmates. I am well prepared to begin a research career.”

“My experience at PUC has been great. The academic relationships built with the staff are ones that I could not have made at any other university. I have enjoyed working with the staff throughout my undergraduate and graduate career, mainly because of their desire to help me inside and outside of the classroom. PUC helped mold me into the student that I am and I am confident that its influence will help guide me through dental school.”
